What is the volume of Earth? - PhysLink.com

WebDec 15, 2024 · With volumes more than three times that of Earth and masses twice as big, planets c and d have much lower densities than Earth. This is surprising because most of the planets just slightly bigger than Earth that have been studied in detail so far all seemed to be rocky worlds like ours. WebThe main worry would be to reconcile twice the surface with the same gravity. Twice the surface means sqrt(2) times the radius, which in turns means about 2*sqrt(2) times the volume. So we are looking at a planet with a volume of 2.8 times that of Earth. The problem is that such a planet would really need a low density to not have a higher gravity.
