WebUnfortunately flies can't be killed. They are usually an indication that you need more food storage items like stone pots or barrels. Leaving food lying out - even in your stockpile - will tend to cause small swarms of flies around your food and (possibly) make it rot quicker. It can also give slight bad thoughts. You can get rid of mud by building floors, roads, etc. on top of it and then remove the construction, but some of the tiles will then get converted into soil. If you didn't intend to smooth and/or engrave the floor building a floor or paved road should work well, however. If you have a craftsdwarf's workshop you may want to put the skeleton stockpile right next to it and see if you can maybe get an artifact decorated with goblin bone eventually.

If you already have a ghost appearing, though, create a slab, engrave the slab, place the slab, and create a tomb zone for it. I'm pretty sure you don't have to make a tombzone for slabs at all. I have a big slab graveyard topside and never made a zone.
